Welcome to The Household Vulnerability Index (HVI) Resource Centre

Welcome to the Household Vulnerability Index (HVI Web Resource Centre. Developed, in 2004 by the Food, Agriculture and Natural Resource Policy Analysis Network (FANRPAN), the HVI is a composite statistical index that was designed to quantify the vulnerability introduced into a given household by combing the various impacts from a multiplicity of variables.

The index is used to categorize households according to their varying degrees of vulnerability in order to ensure better planning and targeting of interventions for mitigating impact. The HVI was first field tested using data collected from seven countries, and later, in the proposed World VI pilot countries in 2006.

This Web Resource Centre was developed with the view to allow stakeholders to access HVI publications, interact through the use of a discussion board/forum, carry out online HVI computations, receive regular updates on the HVI, and a host of other services.
